Glass Oven at Dillmeier Glass

State of the Art Glass Tempering

Our state-of-the-art tempering ovens and experienced operators deliver the tightest of tolerances, guaranteed.

Tempering, the final and most important step in glass fabrication, creates finished glass that is 4-5 times stronger than ordinary or annealed glass. Unlike annealed glass, which can break into jagged shards, tempered glass breaks into tiny, relatively harmless pieces that are usually round in shape. In the tempering process glass is heated to 650° Celsius and then carefully cooled in a monitored procedure called quenching, which cools the outer surfaces of the glass much more rapidly than the center. When the center of the glass cools, it tries to pull back from the outer surfaces. As a result, the center remains in tension, and the outer surfaces compress, giving tempered glass its strength.

Dillmeier Glass is a SGCC certified tempering company. We use two tempering ovens to meet our customers’ short lead times. Both ovens are 86” x 150” in size and can temper from 1/8” up to 1” glass. We test glass hourly during production, and send samples to independent laboratories on an ongoing basis, to ensure our process meets SGCC compliance.
